Jon Long

Attorney at Law


Jon Long was born and raised near Fairfax, Virginia. While growing up, Jon enjoyed fishing and wrestling. In 2002, Jon graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a focus in accounting. While in law school, Jon was an editor for the Water Law Review and a Judicial Intern for both The Honorable Chief Judge Larry J. Naves in the Civil Division of the Denver District Court and The Honorable Judge William D. Robbins in the Criminal Division of the Denver District Court. In 2007, Jon graduated with honors from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law, with a Juris Doctorate Degree.

After being admitted to the Colorado bar, Jon served for 14 years as a Deputy District Attorney at the Denver District Attorney’s Office, where he litigated a broad variety of cases, including complex financial matters and Department of Revenue investigations. Over the past 14 years, Jon has completed over 100 jury trials, argued hundreds of evidentiary motions in court, negotiated settlements in thousands of cases, and directed countless investigations.

Jon is married and has two sons. He moved to Tennessee to raise his kids closer to old friends and family. In his free time, Jon enjoys fishing and coaching his boys’ wrestling and baseball teams.

"My Dad"

"First breakfast, then I review my calendar."


What's one of the biggest lessons you've learned in your career?

"Identify issues in cases and prepare to address them."


Are you a sports fan? If so, who are your favorite teams?

"Yes. I'm a fan of the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Broncos, and the New York Yankees."


What are your hobbies?

"Lifting weights, fishing, and rock climbing."


What was your first job?

"I worked at a car wash."


What was your best subject in school?

"History"


What motivates you the most?

"My family"


What's one professional achievement you're proud of?

"Being able to provide for my family."


What is your favorite place you've ever visited?

"The Bahamas"


What kind of music do you like and who is your favorite artist?

"Country music is my favorite and I love Frank Foster."


Do you have any pets?

"Yes, a bulldog."


What's your favorite family tradition?

"Fishing"


What's your favorite thing to do to relax after a stressful work week?

"I like to hit the gym during the week and go fishing on the weekends."


What's your idea of a perfect day?

"Catching a bunch of fish from a poling skiff on a calm, sunny day, followed by a few beers while shooting pool."


If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

"Healing, like Wolverine."


Which historical figure would you like to meet?

"Jesus"


Lastly, who is one person you look up to and why?

"My Dad. He's always been great to me. I respect his work ethic, integrity, and practical knowledge."
