Byron B. Winsett, III, Esq.

Attorney at Law | Civil Litigation Lead

Byron Winsett brings more than two decades of legal and executive experience to Pickler Law, where he leads the firm’s civil litigation practice. A seasoned trial attorney and former prosecutor, Mr. Winsett blends strategic insight, courtroom acumen, and business leadership to guide clients through complex disputes with clarity and confidence.

Before joining Pickler Law, Mr. Winsett served as CEO of Utilities Equipment Co., Inc., a company specializing in the sale and installation of specialized equipment for work vehicles. He oversaw business operations, negotiated contracts, and directed strategic initiatives—experience that deepens his understanding of the challenges faced by business clients in litigation.

Mr. Winsett previously spent over a decade in the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, most recently as Chief Prosecutor for the Public Corruption and Economic Crime Unit. Under his leadership, the unit prosecuted high-stakes financial crimes and cases involving public officials, often coordinating with state and federal agencies. His work earned a reputation for integrity, depth of legal knowledge, and prosecutorial precision.

He began his professional career in public accounting as a staff accountant in the audit division of Ernst & Young’s Memphis office. There, he gained critical experience in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls—skills that continue to inform his litigation strategy, particularly in financially complex cases.

Mr. Winsett moved on to hold roles as Director of Human Resources and General Counsel and then Vice-President and CAO for a $15,000,000 cable contracting business, as a criminal defense attorney with the Shelby County Public Defender’s Office, and as a sole practitioner in the private practice of law.  His wide-ranging background—spanning from private practice to public defense, prosecution, corporate counsel, and executive leadership—gives him a unique, 360-degree perspective on civil disputes.

He holds a BBA in Accounting from Millsaps College and a JD from Tulane University Law School. He has remained active in the legal community through years of civic engagement including board service with MIFA’s Opportunity Bank and Memphis Area Legal Services, membership in the Rotary Club of Memphis East, and academic involvement as an adjunct professor at the University of Memphis School of Law. With all of his experiences, he believes his most important and enduring legacy has been the sharing what he has learned by training law enforcement personnel and supervising and mentoring dozens of law student interns.
